What hours is 87 Afterschool in session?
All Afterschool clubs begin at 3:30 PM Mondays through Friday. Clubs end at 5:00pm. There is AfterCare supervision from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the gym. Some clubs run an extended day schedule until 5:30 PM; these clubs are listed on the Afterschool Clubs page.
How does my child get to Afterschool?
If your child attends PS87 during the day, they will be escorted by their teacher to the cafeteria at dismissal time. Kindergarten children are escorted to Rooms 122 and 124, adjacent from to the cafeteria. Children from other schools are responsible for their own transportation to PS87, where they can join the clubs in the cafeteria. When clubs time begins, club teachers gather the group from the cafeteria or Room 124, and take the children to the appointed club activity area.
What if I want to pick-up my child early?
Personnel from Afterschool are stationed in the main lobby during the Afterschool program time. They will assist you in locating your child if you need to pick-up early. If your child is part of a traveling club, please make arrangements ahead of time so that your child can be placed in an alternative club for that day. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the club returns to retrieve your child.
What are the Afterschool dismissal and pick-up areas and times?
Children are brought to the auditorium for dismissal by 5:00 PM. Kindergartners gather in Room B10 for dismissal from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
What is AfterCare?
AfterCare supervision covers children from club dismissal until pick-up before 6:00 PM. AfterCare activities include general supervision in the auditorium, reading and homework help in the library and free play in the gym. Children sign-up for the library and gym on a daily basis at the sigh-out desk. Afterschool personnel can help you locate your child in AfterCare.
What if I am late picking up my child?
The Afterschool provides a window for pick-up extending until 6:00 PM. After 6:00 PM, a fee of $1.00 per minute will be assessed. Please make every effort to be on time or to contact the Afterschool via the lobby phone, 212-678-2826 in an emergency.
Can I observe a class?
A special open house week will be run each January to give parents the opportunity to have a hands-on look at the program. The Afterschool Program is unable to accommodate visiting due to insurance regulations.
What is the average size of an afterschool club?
Club size is usually 12 students per club, except for sports and performance classes.
